Removing Skunk Smell From Pets – The Recipe

Following is a formula which works well on removing skunk smell from pets, or human for that matter. Nothing but time erases it completely, but this will help lessen the “stink” from the skunk.

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup of baking soda
1 tablespoon of liquid dish detergent

Mix it all together and pour over problem areas while being careful around the eyes. Rinse well.

It probably would be a good idea to give a bath first just to get some of that spray off or your pet’s hair. If the skunk’s spray has hit your pet’s eyes, rinse them out immediately with water. If the eyes are irritated, red or swollen seek medical attention as soon as possible.

My dog unfortunately likes to be skunked too much. She’s been skunked a total of 3 times now… The first few times I used the skunk-off shampoo at work. More recently I used this method. Definitely not fun!

I had dogs and cats that were sprayed a lot! This was before I had this concoction so all I used was a bath and tomato juice:). Smell was with us for a long long time!

My dog was skunked a year ago. Many people recommend using tomato juice, however it did not help me. The only thing that was effective is lemon juice. It neutralized the smell of skunk!
